Discover the Joy of Family Secret Santa Tradition

Its our tradition to spend Christmas day with our extended family members. This year, I decided to start a family secret santa tradition. I’m so glad I did because it turned out to be a hit for children and adults alike.

The children in our family still get presents, but the family Secret Santa was an opportunity for everyone in the family to get an additional present.

The Secret Santa tradition is a cherished family tradition for many households. This gift-giving game adds an element of excitement and surprise during the holiday season while also fostering a sense of bonding among family members.

The concept of Secret Santa involves drawing names randomly to determine who each person will be buying a gift for. The identity of the gift giver is kept secret until the exchange takes place, adding an element of mystery and anticipation to the festivities.

Read on to find out how I planned it all.

Step By Step Guide To Planning A Family Secret Santa

I organised our family secret Santa by following these easy steps :

      • I started by setting the ground rules for the game. I established a budget, gift themes, and participation rules. Since our group included both adults and children, I decided on a budget of £5 each to make it affordable for everyone. This way, even the kids could participate and purchase gifts with their pocket money

      • Its always fun to assign Secret Santas! The Draw Names website makes it even better. It allowed us to set exclusions choose a date for exchanging gifts, and make a gift wish list.

      • To keep everyone in the loop, I set up a WhatsApp group named “The Big Family Secret Santa” and added all the adults and teenagers. This way, I could easily send out prompts and countdowns to the gift exchange date, which was on Christmas Day. It made communication so much easier, and everyone was able to stay on track.

      • To add some excitement to the gift exchange event, I came up with a fun idea. I asked everyone to share three things they admire about the person they picked and explain why during the gift reveal. It was a great way to spread some positivity and make the experience even more meaningful.

      • We added a fun twist to our Secret Santa game that made it even more exciting! After the gift reveal, each person had one guess to identify their secret Santa, and then that person would reveal themselves. The activity was met with lots of squeals of laughter and excitement. I received very positive feedback from all the family members. It was such a hit that we’re hoping to continue the tradition and make Christmas even more fun!
