6 Amazing Benefits Of Consistent Family Devotional Time

For as long as I can remember, we have had consistent family devotional time with our children. As Christian parents, my husband and I are constantly nurturing our children’s faith by providing them with practical applications of the Bible.

Our usual routine is to read a daily devotional book and the Bible, have a brief discussion about what we read, and pray before going to bed. Our children enjoy this activity, and it has helped them grow in their faith and strengthen their mental health.

If you’re reading this and wondering how and when you can possibly fit this into your already crammed daily routine. Or you’re thinking that your children are too young to participate in this. You’re not alone! However, I would recommend that you begin by praying for wisdom on how to proceed. You can also take the following practical steps:

  • Identify which time works best for your family. Perhaps in the mornings, evenings immediately after meals or cutting short your TV time
  • Get a good daily devotional and bibles for everyone to participate in
  • Ensure you structure it to accommodate the ages and needs of your kids
  • The idea is to start small and build upon it.

Here are some advantages of having a consistent family devotional time.

6 Incredible Advantages Of Consistent Family Devotional Time For Your Children

Amazing benefits of family devotionals

1. Family Devotional Time Promotes Bonding

Family devotional time can be used by parents to teach their children about their religious beliefs or moral values and can be held in a variety of ways.

Praise and worship, bible and devotional reading, and prayers are common components of Christian family devotional time. There should also be plenty of opportunities for discussion about the devotional and bible passages read. Remember to make it exciting and enjoyable so that your children will look forward to doing it.

When families spend time together regularly, they are able to bond and form a strong relationship with one another. An old adage states that a family that prays together, stays together.

2. Family Devotional Time Provides Opportunities To Strengthen Your Child's Faith

Family devotional time enables parents to teach their children about Christianity while also strengthening their own faith through shared reading time with their children.

Each member of your family can take turns reading Bible passages aloud, as well as reading the daily devotional. As Christian parents, the Bible is very clear that parents have the responsibility of teaching their children consistently about God.

This is evident in Deuteronomy 6:5-9 which says: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words that I give you today. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you’re at home or away when you lie down or get up. Write them down, and tie them around your wrist, and wear them as headbands as a reminder. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

3. Taking Turns Reading During Family Devotional Time Improves Reading Ability

Incredible benefits of family devotional time

One of the most important things a child can do is read. It aids in the development of a child’s imagination and critical thinking skills, as well as the acquisition of new vocabulary words.

There are numerous ways for parents to assist their children in improving their reading skills. One method is to ensure that they read every day. Taking turns reading the bible and devotionals daily helps to improve your child’s reading ability.

Family devotional time not only strengthens your child’s spiritual life but also their educational ability. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

4. Consistent Family Devotional Time Helps Develop Your Child's Faith

All your children shall be taught by the lord, and great shall be the peace of your children- Isaiah 54:13

The benefits of family devotional time cannot be overemphasised. If children have consistent family devotional time, they are more likely to grow up with a strong faith. This is due to the fact that it provides them with a solid foundation of Christian values and morals that will serve them well in the future.

5. Provides Opportunities For Your Child To Ask Questions About Their Faith

Our family devotional sessions have evolved to meet the needs of my growing children. Recently, it appears that our daily devotional book addresses life issues that one or more of the kids are dealing or have dealt with. This is especially beneficial because it allows for further discussion and the use of the Bible as a teaching and support tool for their life struggles.

As parents strive to assist their children in making the connection between their faith and world reality. They will be confronted with difficult questions, and family devotional time is an excellent opportunity to discuss, refer to the Bible, and pray about it.

As a result, you will be encouraging your children to take the necessary steps to grasp hold of their faith.

6. Helps Your Children Put Their Struggles As Christian Children Into Context

A good devotional book, in addition to the Bible, can help children put their struggles as Christian children into context. Your kids will see that they are not alone in their struggle and that others have gone through similar experiences.

A powerful kid’s daily devotional book should be relevant to your children’s ages and interests while also being spiritually uplifting and encouraging.
