Are you wondering what parents can do on a date night when they can’t find child care? Or are you looking for exciting at-home date night ideas for parents when the kids are in bed?

Living in the UK with a limited family support network means that most date nights are spent without childcare. However, when it comes to spending time together without the kids, my husband and I are constantly thinking outside the box.

We’ve gotten pretty good at recreating a romantic atmosphere at home when we can’t go out. If you struggle to get babysitters for date nights, why don’t you turn those bland evenings into fun and exciting at-home date nights once you’ve sent the kids to bed. Read on to find out how.

Why Should Parents Have Regular Date Nights ?

Going on regular date nights can help you reconnect with your partner, have fun together, and develop a strong emotional connection. It is also beneficial for a  couple’s mental health and can help to strengthen their relationship.

When you have children, you understand how difficult it is to find time for a date
night. And it can seem impossible if you don’t have a babysitter. However, do not despair; here are some tips to help you bring some of the ambiance of the restaurant to your at-home date night:

Please keep in mind that this is a no-kids-allowed event. We usually have a good time with the kids and put them to bed early. We tell them we’re having an at-home date night or celebrating a special occasion such as Valentine’s Day alone. As the children grow older, they are more than willing to let us get on with it.
The exchange of gifts sets the tone for the day, particularly if it is a special occasion, such as your anniversary. It does not have to be expensive. It could even be a song or a poem!

You have the option of planning together or separately. Individual planning allows for surprises as well as competition to see who can outdo the other.

  1. Excellent suggestions! We do date nights at home too, and a favorite is to watch a series together so we can have something to talk about that’s not work or kid related! Cooking together created more stress for us, but I know lots of people who it works well for.
