Love heart with love is all you need written below it

Chinwe is happily married to Micheal, and they have been in an interracial marriage for ten years. In this Valentine’s Day special, Chinwe looks at 7 ways to sustain an interracial marriage. Read on to find out more!

Valentine’s day is a time to reflect on what love really means for all of us. For me, love is about being able to share all that I am and all that I have with people in my life especially my other half.

Growing up, I never thought I would marry a man outside my own country and culture let alone from a different race. But as time progresses, life becomes more complicated and unpredictable and we find ourselves involved in situations that we never expected to experience. Therefore, we make decisions based on the present circumstances of life.

Why Love Matters So Much?

According to Lao Tzu “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” It is a two-edged sword, everyone must give something. In other words, it is very important to always consider the feeling of the person you are sharing your life with no matter the culture, race or religion.

What matters is love, the most powerful force on the planet, that harnesses and builds a strong relationship based on honesty and integrity. Although, it is very difficult to encourage people to give love a chance, or another chance, in this impatient generation full of separations and divorces.

it is always important to know that love will help you even when you stumble. You have to get up and keep moving because what happened in the past does not determine your future.

The question now is how do you keep an interracial or any other relationship stronger and more successful?

  1. Share your private moments together- Get off your phone or anything else that might distract you. Spending quality time together on a regular basis should be made a priority.
  2. Communication– Be open and honest about your feelings. It is important to be aware of the various ways you can communicate with each other. Learn each other’s love language.
  3. Be respectful– It is important for interracial couples to be aware of any cultural differences that may arise. Learn about each other’s cultures and respect them. Adopt the aspects of your culture that are essential to each other.
  4. Take accountability– Accept full responsibility for your actions in your relationship, rather than blaming the other person.
  5. Be honest and tolerant– Be honest about your needs, as well as be willing to compromise.
  6. Travel the world together– When you travel together, you get to see the world through the eyes of the other person. You get to learn about different cultures and lifestyles. You get to learn about your partner’s hobbies and interests. And you get to partake in each other’s exploits. Traveling together can be a great way for couples to stay connected, but it does have some drawbacks that some couples may find difficult. Traveling, for example, can be costly, time-consuming, and stressful on relationships if not done properly.
  7. Always have fun– Watch movies, go out a lot, visit friends, have candlelight dinners, and have a lot of date nights.
